Electric Transits Africa (ETA), a company enabling businesses in Kenya to transition to electric mobility, has successfully closed its pre-seed funding round. The round was backed by a consortium of investors, including energy and mobility sector entrepreneurs and seasoned angel investors. It was led by AVIA Weghorst, which is advancing its electric mobility strategy through AVIA VOLT. Invest International also participated in the round.
This investment marks a significant milestone for ETA as it embarks on its mission to contribute to a future-ready transport ecosystem in Africa. The capital will be used to deploy ETA's first fleet of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure in Kenya, with a particular focus on clients in the tourism, logistics, and security sectors.
A complete solution, one fixed monthly rate
ETA operates through an EV-as-a-Service model, offering a complete solution — including vehicles, maintenance, insurance, and charging infrastructure — for a fixed monthly fee. This structure significantly lowers the entry barrier and makes the shift to electric transport both accessible and financially viable for businesses of all sizes.
"A global climate transition must include emerging markets such as Kenya. Vehicle ownership is growing rapidly here, largely driven by high-emission second-hand imports. To create lasting environmental impact, we need to make electric mobility a viable alternative in these fast-growing economies. The impressive rise of electric two-wheelers has already proven it's possible — now it's time for four-wheelers to follow."
— Wout van Blommestein, Founder, Electric Transits AfricaCharging infrastructure with Peblar
The first vehicles are scheduled for delivery in the coming months, alongside the rollout of charging infrastructure provided by Peblar. Through this launch, ETA aims to contribute meaningfully to a cleaner, smarter, and more resilient transport system across the continent.
The company name, ETA, is a deliberate nod to 'Estimated Time of Arrival' — symbolising that the time for clean and affordable mobility in Africa is now.
